Joseph
Burgess has, in more than 35 years of law
practice, gained extensive experience in commercial and product liability
litigation, education law pertaining to colleges and universities, and
employment and workers compensation law. After attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and graduating in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 1964, Mr. Burgess received valuable engineering and technical experience in construction and chemical research industries and brings that experience to litigation involving complex technical issues and scientific experts. He has represented Shell Oil Company throughout his entire legal career providing counseling and representing Shell in diverse litigation including products liability class actions, employment discrimination, real estate, antitrust and environmental litigation and administrative hearings. While especially experienced in representing major corporations and educational institutions, he provides counsel to a wide variety of small and mid-sized corporations, as well as family-owned businesses. In addition, Mr. Burgess provides counsel to the American Land Conservancy, a nationally recognized land and water conservation organization. Mr. Burgess received his legal education at the University of San Francisco where he was a member of the University of San Francisco Law Review and graduated in 1969 as a member of the McAuliffe Law Honor Society. He is an avid sailor, scuba diver and white water enthusiast.
